Punganur Cow

Punganur Cow Punganur cow, also known as Punganuru breed, is a small-sized indigenous cattle breed native to the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is believed that these cows have been bred for more than 500 years and are considered one of the smallest breeds of cattle in the world. The cows are mainly used for dairy production and farming purposes. The Punganur cow is highly valued for its milk production. They can produce up to 3 litres of milk per day with high fat content ranging from 5-8%. The milk produced by these cows has a distinct flavour which makes it highly sought after by consumers who prefer traditional Indian dairy products over mass-produced ones. In addition to their milk production, they are also used for ploughing fields due to their strength and endurance. One distinguishing feature of the Punganur cow is its small size. These cows typically weigh around 115-200 kg when fully grown and stand at a height of approximately 80 cm. Despite their diminutive size, they possess great strength and stamina making them ideal for farming on hilly terrains where larger breeds might struggle.
